A Modern Greenery & Eucalyptus Birthday Party

A Modern Greenery & Eucalyptus Birthday Party

To say I’m in love with this minimalist, greenery birthday party doesn’t even come close to capturing how I feel about it. I’m, like, obsessed with how cute this theme is and I cannot wait to spam you with all the sweet photos of Peyton’s First Birthday!

Peyton’s Mom came to me frustrated at the lack of decorations she could find for her daughter’s first birthday. She wanted a certain look with crisp white, silver, and green eucalyptus and could see it in her mind but wasn’t able to find it at a store. That’s where I stepped in! If you’ve ever worked with me before you know that’s my specialty! Handmade, one of a kind products that you can’t find anywhere else? Now that’s my cup of tea.

After we sent a few ideas back and forth and pictures of the event space, I knew 2 things were for sure happening. #1. I was putting up a giant balloon garland, and #2 I was making these greenery covered embroidery hoops to hang by the window. (If DIYing is your kind of thing head over to the blog post linked here to get a step by step tutorial on making the hoops, and the blog post here for a tutorial on the balloon garland!)

At the heart of this theme was eucalyptus, but she took it a step further in the invitations, cupcake toppers, and décor with more beautiful greenery. The table was lined with this gorgeous eucalyptus strand she picked up at Hobby Lobby, and the felt letter board hung out in the corner of the table. After we snapped a few photos this table became appetizer central and the backdrop of greenery hoops and balloon garland made it the perfect centerpiece of the party. You all know I’m a firm believer in just decorating one area of the party and this one was no different.

For Peyton’s cake smash at her high chair I made a garland of eucalyptus stems to hang from the front, and then layered it with our cardstock ONE banner. Look at that color combo with the wood highchair! It was exactly what Mom had in mind.

A few days after the party we hung them up and did a fun one year old photo session with another cake smash. It turned out pretty cute, too! Here are some of my favorite photos from the day.

Our silver ONE balloon set was hung on the wall behind the high chair and added the perfect amount of color to the photos.

Check out that little spoon – Peyton wouldn’t dive in with her hands but once we gave her the spoon she was all about that cake!

    Wild One First Birthday Party

    Wild One First Birthday Party

This past weekend I had the pleasure of helping my cousin decorate her son's first birthday party. She went with a Where the Wild Things Are theme and it turned out amazing. I couldn't wait to show you all the beautiful details she put together!

Her dessert table was the backdrop to the party, and by focusing all of her decorations in one spot she saved a ton of money. No need to redecorate the entire house, Momma! Keep it simple and pick one spot to make the biggest statement.

With a little help from our Balloon Garland tutorial, she created this beautiful balloon arch across the top of the backdrop. Creative girl - she has a large hutch in her dining room, so she simply draped a large white table cloth over it and attached the decorations directly to it with tape. Easy and it saved her from having to put tape or push pins all over her walls!

My favorite part was the set of gold balloons she picked up here in our shop. She added a handful of palm leaves from Hobby Lobby behind them, and sprinkled some on the table and throughout the balloon garland.

I created a matching high chair tassel banner for her, and added our brand new wood ONE banner over the top. It made for a great addition to the cupcake smash photos we took later that day.

The dessert table itself was just darling. She had a family friend do the baking, and purchased these cupcake toppers from Etsy. The flag banner and signs in the frames were purchased from Etsy and she simply printed them from home the day of the party, took 2 frames from the house and temporarily used them for the signs, and strung the flags on string she had in the house. Quick, inexpensive, and easy!

I think my favorite part of the party (besides eating the delicious cupcakes!) was the 'guest book' she had us all sign and write notes in. It fit the theme, and will be a cherished book for her son as he grows.

Job well done to my sweet cousin. I had so much fun taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful party she threw!

Simple Ideas for Choosing a Spectacular First Birthday Theme

Simple Ideas for Choosing a Spectacular First Birthday Theme

Simple Ideas for a Choosing a Spectacular First Birthday Theme

It’s time for planning the first birthday!  Your family has a whole lot to celebrate from first teeth, first words, first steps, and other milestones.  But where do you even begin to choose a theme when Pinterest is filled with so many cute things?!

Girrrlll, you know I’ve gotcha covered on this one!

Being a momma myself I have only planned two first birthdays, but as the owner of Sweet Chubby Cheeks since 2012 I have helped thousands of other women in your shoes and I am sharing my best tips with you today.

Interests - (ha ha) Okay, so I know you are thinking, but Megs, my daughter is in love with the box her toy came from, instead of the actual toy. I totes get it. But maybe she has a favorite stuffed lovie, or a favorite book she loves to have you read over and over (and OVER!).  As she is transitioning in to solid foods, maybe there is a food she is really starting to dig on that you could plan a theme around. I mean, let’s be honest here, if it was up to me every one of my own birthday parties would involve me just grubbing on pizza, wearing sweat pants, and watching my fave Netflix show, so...

Take a Nod from Your Nursery Decor - Let’s face it, your nursery decor is On. Point. Why not continue to run with it for a first birthday theme?  And the pictures from her first birthday would continue to look amazing hanging on the gallery wall in her room.

Twinkle Twinkle with glittering stars, beautiful soft watercolor floral prints, or magical unicorns are popular nursery themes now, and might be first birthday themes worth considering.

Puns are Fun - you may or may not have picked up on the fact that I can be a little light hearted and corny from time to time, and who doesn’t love a good pun?

For babies with winter birthdays consider a Snow Much Fun to be One or Winter Onederland theme both with pale pink and lavender options complemented with glittery silver and white.  Pair this with snowflake cupcake toppers and you’ve got yourself a theme!

Wild One looks amazing with leaves and a more boho feel that is so on-trend right now.  We have paired ours with a coral, mint, and gold colorway option, but custom colors can be made upon request.

Twotti Fruity is a fun idea for celebrating a second birthday or twins - because they are double the fun and twice as nice! See what I did there? 😉

Momma, your baby is amazing. And you know what?  It means her first birthday will be too.  You will do an incredible job with her party.  She will look the bomb-dot-com with her outfit and party decor from Sweet Chubby Cheeks, your family and friends will all be there surrounding you with love, and it will be perfect no matter what.

Pick a theme, cross this off your to-do list, and go plan something fun!! Like, say, um…cake tastings?!
